“It’s an awesome place for the community — a place where people can feel safe,” said club President Betty Lawyer, who’s been involved about 20 years. “They don’t have to have a partner. And they don’t let anyone walk.”

The sessions are popular for those who have lost a spouse, she said.

“We want it to be a place for the exercise,” Lawyer said. “Some of these people don’t get out, and this is the one day a week where they can go see their friends.”

The center is at 15950 Van Buren Blvd.
